postaholic
i pretty quickly and drastically closed my facebook account a few days ago. i loved the support i was getting. loved it. but i was spending to much time looking at the faces of the women sam had sex with. too much time messaging anyone else that i thought he had sex with. messaging people for answers. drawing myself further and further into his horrible web of lies.
so i pulled the plug. i allowed Jesus to carry me out of that horrible place (it was a horrible place for me) and i am so happy to be free of it. the joy i received even after a day of not having to see things. unspeakable joy.
so no, i didn't unfriend you. i didn't have a nervous breakdown. i am choosing to share my story here, in a place that for awhile i was afraid to share with anyone who knew me.

a little bit from the past.
not like cookies and milk (which i want) or frozen yogurt with cheesecake chunks (which i also want).
so, while i wait for my water to boil so i can have a cup of my favorite tea and try to convince myself i don't need to eat (wait a sec, was that a hunger pain?) i thought i'd pop on and try to share a post and get out of my posting every other month habit.
so we returned from our great adventure up north and came home to a mad whirlwind of events. hosting Bible study at our house (the next day after driving 13 odd hours) then other obligations out of the house (which i now can't remember) and then my big event of december: my handmade holiday party.
this was my second year throwing this shin-dig, and it is a lot of fun. basically i invite all the women i know- and tell them to invite all the women they know, and everyone is supposed to bring a handmade gift (and an appetizer or dessert because eating is a lot of fun). then we exchange white elephant style. i decided to throw this type of party because i just love to give gifts and realized i couldn't give a handmade gift to everyone i love. so i thought that by throwing this party we could all celebrate together.
now obviously because i host this party i had my handmade gift prepared weeks before the night.
wait. no.
but i had a fun idea, and i knew it "wouldn't" take to long.

this was my Christmas wreath. i actually made 2. the first one (which after scrolling through all my pictures) i didn't take a picture of. i kept the first one. because i really loved the colors i used, and i wanted it. i'm sorry, but its the truth.

the greatest thing about making this wreath (which wasn't nearly as amazing as some of the other gifts exchanged) was that as i was creating the wreath i had a special helper.
my little mason. she wanted to help hold the fabric while i ripped it, wanted to talk about the fabric, and when i gave her her own pile of fabric she would throw it up in the air and shout, "it's Christmas!". she then declared her pile of fabric as her "decorations" and kept herself busy for hours "decorating" our house. i foresee many years of Christmas creating with her, and am happy to see her sewing/creating juices starting to flow.

since i am toting around a nursing baby, who was also celebrating his first Christmas, i felt it was only natural to try and quickly whip something up for him to wear.
he's happy, really. i just appliqued a quick little tree on a onesie. i have more onesies... i should do more applique.i love to applique and embroider. love it.
and i love that little man in the picture. to spice things up for Christmas i added a "1" since it was his first Christmas.
oh my goodness, how cute is he? last year on Christmas i was really surprised that i tested "negative" on my pregnancy test. but a few days later i found out i was expecting him. it really puts the year 2010 in perspective for me. maybe not perspective, but it makes it feel more impacting. or crazy. or wonderful.i'm not sure. but my tea is probably ready to sip now. and i have projects i can be working on.
or i might see if sam wants popcorn.

my full plate.
i figure it burns twice the amount of calories.
everyday there are still struggles though. my biggest puddle to wade through right now is to work on not yelling. there's the yelling when i am on the couch nursing trying to get someone's attention (usually to stop fighting or to have someone race outside and get henry to stop doing something unfortunate- aka, heading for the street) or the loud un-loving words that come out of my mouth as my children push me towards utter frustration.
and it makes me sad for many reasons, 1- that i have such little self-control that i cannot keep myself from constantly making the same parenting mistakes, and 2- that little wilder is hearing his mama have a pretty unhappy tone way to much.
its not all bad. its pretty good (however the last 2 nights that i had to manage solo had some un-fun moments and my first everyone crying at once catastrophe) its just when i see the bad spark up in me it seems to undo the good.
at least everyday is a new day. i can apologize to my children for losing my cool, and move on to the next thing. i can look at my new baby and think about his gentle spirit before i open my mouth. i can remember that my children are sinners just like me and they haven't been given a spirit of self-control.
and i can ultimately remember that i will blink my eyes and this will be over. even as mason came and kissed wilder this morning, looking at her little brother with such affection i thought, "she's going to be a mama someday". and that someday will come faster than i realize.
outside of the day to day routine of children, cleaning, laundry, cooking, and the other multitudes of homemaking, i have other things sorting through my brain. like the constant paranoia that every little cough my baby makes could be whooping cough.
or the fact that my application for becoming a lactation consultant has been accepted, and that i now have 2 years to complete 500 clinical hours, take 45 hours of breast-feeding education, and another long list of tasks to complete, and still awaiting to hear when i will start peer counseling at our wic office.
oh, and we are doing a handmade holiday (super excited) so i will be making all our gifts.
and christmas is less than 100 days away.
and a week in washington for thanksgiving.
co-hosting a soup night with my girlfriends, and getting ready to plan out my 2nd annual handmade holiday party.
and wanting to really enjoy the holidays with my kids this year.
and exercising and dieting. because i would really like to slim down.
hmmm. i thought taking a few minutes to blog would make me feel a little bit more relaxed, not a little bit more overwhelmed. that's ok. sam took the older two for an errand and its quiet here (except for the sounds of screaming children at recess at the school across the street) so i think i will finish my christmas list (its almost done) type it out and promise not to change it.
but first, maybe my Bible, and another cup of refresh tea.

100 posts.
100 posts. Wow. I am quite surprised that it went that quickly. Well, it isn’t that surprising when a lot of my posts were rather boring vents on life, or lists of things I needed to accomplish.
But I am happy. 100 posts. Something tangible that I have accomplished.
This blog has been so wonderful for me. The blogging community is a fairly amazing thing. Even though I may not be viewed by a wide multitude of people, I love having the accountability to do something for myself.
I hope with my next 100 posts to be a little more consistent in what I blog about. I hope to show more of what I love, more of what I do, and more of what I want to do.
Thank you to all who check in on me and my generally wondering thoughts.

Henry is here!
yup, that's right. as i posted my last post (on Sunday afternoon) i was secretly hoping to be meeting that little guy real soon- and i did- less than 12 hours after my post! more details to come later (when Campbell is pressing limits with his will and Mason isn't trying to share oatmeal with me via my knee), but here is a tiny gist- and a quick little pic at my new boy.

a walk in our temporary sun
mindless wondering
It is still raining. Which is good, because this state was (is?) in danger of a drought. Rain is better than snow, because the snow stresses Sam out, and makes it impossible for me to want to go out at all. However the snow is prettier to look at, and it is way more entertaining to watch Campbell play in the snow, then watch him press his little face against our windows longing to be outside.
There is constant rain. And it’s not just the water I hear trickling down the storm drain right now. It’s the constant rain version of the pain I see in other people’s lives. Specifically, my sister. I know she received some devastating news today, news that I cannot begin to relate too. I wish there was something I could do to take away her pain. All I can do is say I'm sorry, and I love her. But it just doesn't seem like enough.
But I do know that it won't rain forever. Sister, it won't rain for ever. God promises no more floods. It won't rain, it can't rain forever. I can't promise what sun will bring- but I hope you can find some hope.

And onto other mindless notes.
I hate elastic.
Argh. I am hating elastic right now. Absolutely hating it. I am currently making a cute little hat for a baby shower. And am having the worst time getting the elastic to work in the “elastic casing” I have made. First, I made my elastic casing at the recommended ½ inch seam allowance, however I couldn’t get the elastic to get through the sewn seams inside the casing (not quite sure how this happened). So- seam ripper. Argh. Then back to sewing another casing. This time at 7/8 seam allowance. So I worked the elastic through, and I must have pulled to much or something, but I pulled the elastic through to make the casing all bunchy, and then cut my elastic to sew it together. However the little bit of casing that hadn’t been sewn on the hat totally puckered out- making the hat look terrible. So I undid the sewing of the elastic- and then promptly lost the elastic in the hat. And had to pull it all out. And then I re threaded the elastic. And lost it again.
I am currently looking at the little hat sitting next to me, without elastic in it, the elastic now to short for the casing, and not quite sure what to do.
It is very frustrating to invest time in a project that should have been done long ago. And to still not be sure what I should quite be doing next with it.
Flash forward 2 hours. I did figure out what the problem was, and have finished the hat.
Was it worth it? Well, sure- its cute, and i'll enjoy giving it. However I still have a little butterfly to sew for it, and matching booties to make... so- spending 2 hours alone on just threading elastic through a casing was not a great use of my time.
You know what else isn't a good use of my time? Picking up torn pieces of books, even after I believe I have successfully removed all paper books from my 2 year olds grasp. Wrong. He has somehow figured out to tear apart the covers of hard books. That's not quite napping. Neither is pulling off the letters of his name that are hanging on the wall. This is the 4th time i've had to re attach them. I know what you are thinking, why not just put them down? Because they look so cute all hanging up, all 3 names... and.... whine- I like it!
Hmm.. I should go unplug that glue gun.
And maybe go to sleep.
I'm looking forward to a half glass of wine in about 8 weeks.
For tonight, i will settle for ice cream.
Yum.

ahhhh... lovely
just some beautiful Moda fabric i purchased the other day, with a wonderful gift card i received for my birthday... i had previously purchased the top fabric for a purse i made for my sister-in-law, but now the fabric was marked down (from 8.99 to i think 4.99) and i had to get some more!
